About the System
How the technology works
Does it work with my existing boiler or heating system?
In most cases, yes. We work with the majority of combi boilers and central heating systems found in Irish homes, including those controlled by Honeywell, Drayton, Hive and Worcester Bosch. During the home survey we assess your existing setup to confirm compatibility and recommend the right approach. If any changes are needed, we'll explain them clearly before any work starts — no surprises.
What brands and devices do you use?
We work with a select range of professional-grade platforms chosen for reliability and genuine usability — not because they're the cheapest on the market. Common brands include Philips Hue for lighting, Lutron for smart switches, Tado and Honeywell for heating, and Eufy or Reolink for cameras and security. Every product we specify is something we'd install in our own homes. We'll recommend what makes sense for your project specifically.
Will everything be controlled from one app?
That's exactly what we design for. Rather than a drawer full of different apps, we configure your system so that everyday controls are unified — whether that's Apple Home, Google Home, or a dedicated smart home platform, depending on what suits you best. The goal is something your whole family can actually use without needing a manual.
Can I add more devices later without starting over?
Yes — and we design every system with exactly this in mind. Whether you want to add a room, integrate EV charging later, or upgrade your cameras, a properly designed system accommodates growth. We document everything during handover so additions slot in cleanly rather than creating a patched-together mess over time.
The Installation
What to expect on the day
How long does a typical installation take?
It depends on the scope. A focused installation — smart lighting in a few rooms plus a heating upgrade — typically takes one to two days. A whole-home system in a new build or full renovation is usually several days. We'll give you a realistic timeframe before work starts so you can plan around it. We don't rush jobs to get to the next one.
Do you work on new builds as well as existing homes?
Yes, and new builds are often ideal for this kind of work because we can design the cabling and infrastructure from scratch rather than retrofitting around what's already there. If you're working with an architect or builder, we're happy to engage early in the project so everything is planned in properly from the start.
Do I need an electrician or other trades alongside you?
For most installations, we handle everything ourselves. For work that requires a registered electrician sign-off — particularly on new builds or where mains wiring is involved — we work alongside trusted local electricians and can coordinate this as part of your project so you're not chasing multiple contractors.
Will there be much disruption or mess?
We aim to be as minimal-impact as possible. Smart home retrofits are generally much less invasive than traditional electrical work — no major chasing or plasterwork in most cases. If any structural work is likely, we'll tell you upfront before the installation begins so there are no surprises when we arrive.
Do you cover all of Kerry, Limerick, Cork and Clare?
Yes — we serve homeowners and businesses across all four counties. If you're not sure whether we cover your area, just drop us a message with your location and we'll confirm. For larger projects outside our main coverage area, we're open to a conversation.
Practical Use
Living with a smart home
Do I need fast broadband for it to work?
No. Most smart home devices are very low-bandwidth and work fine on a standard Irish broadband connection. What matters far more is reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home — which we assess and address during the home survey. If your network has weak spots, we'll recommend a mesh Wi-Fi solution before any smart devices go in.
Is it complicated for older family members to use?
This is something we take seriously in every installation. The goal is to make your home easier to live in for everyone, not harder. We set up simple interfaces — wall panels, voice control and a straightforward app — and we walk every member of the household through how things work during handover. We've installed systems for people in their eighties who now control their heating and lights with a single button press.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Core functions like lighting and heating typically continue to work locally even without an internet connection, depending on the platform. Things that rely on remote access — viewing cameras while away, or cloud-based voice assistants — would be temporarily unavailable. We design systems so that a broadband outage doesn't leave you unable to turn a light on. We'll explain exactly how your system behaves offline during handover.
Can I control everything when I'm away from home?
Yes. Remote access is a standard feature of modern smart home platforms — you can check cameras, adjust heating, lock doors and turn off lights from anywhere in the world using your phone. You can also set automations so the house manages itself while you're travelling without you needing to do anything manually.
Will it work if I lose power?
A full power outage will affect smart devices just as it affects conventional devices. However, we ensure that when power is restored, your system comes back up correctly and devices return to a sensible default state rather than behaving erratically. For critical scenarios like access control, we'll discuss failsafe options during the design stage.
Cost & Support
Pricing, quotes and aftercare
Do you give fixed-price quotes or charge by the hour?
We provide detailed, fixed-price proposals after the home survey — so you know exactly what you'll pay before any work begins. There are no hourly rates that spiral or hidden charges. If your requirements change during the project, we discuss any cost implications and get your agreement before proceeding.
Is the initial consultation really free?
Yes, completely. Our first conversation is always free and comes with no obligation. We'll listen to what you're looking for, ask a few questions, and give you honest advice about what makes sense for your home and budget. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you that too.
What aftercare and support do you offer?
We don't disappear after installation. All systems include a full handover walkthrough and written documentation. Beyond that, we offer ongoing support — if something needs attention or you want to add to your system, you have a number to call and someone at the other end who knows your exact setup. Aftercare arrangements for larger or more complex systems can be discussed as part of the initial proposal.
Can I get a system for a rental property or commercial premises?
Yes. We work with landlords, commercial property owners, offices, retail units and workshops. Smart home and building automation is particularly useful in rental or commercial contexts — energy monitoring, access control and remote management all make real-world sense. Get in touch to talk through your specific situation.
What if something stops working after installation?
You call us. That's the point of using a local specialist rather than a faceless online retailer. We stand behind the systems we install. If something develops a fault — whether it's a device, a configuration issue or a platform update causing a problem — we'll troubleshoot and sort it. We're not interested in one-off jobs that leave customers stranded.
